Go back and look in the thread on the BF forums.  When the talk of user bars happened someone said something about a Caitian Connection.  I made it and posted a link then.

The BFKC is a Klingon forum but early on I recognized that the discussion was going to be what is Klingon from a federation point of view.  I could see that having people post the rights and wrongs of Klingons from vulcan, ferengi, andorian, cardassian, or whatever perspective was just a helpful.  It would teach about both the Klingon and the other.

In fact, the first wave of students I had in my simm included a half cardie, vulcan, romulan, bajorian, and of course, a few humans.  But the point was to get representatives of those cultures.  Sadly, most don't stay around too long.

At one time I considered renaming this place the BF Alien Connection.  But long term, its just the Klingons that seem to pack together and keep going.  The rommies don't get this at all.  They recently returned and went off and made their own forum.  I would have made a companion one here.  I already had a romulan area.  I'd do the same for any other species if I knew players were going to stick around and do stuff.   So come here and be active and FORCE me to make the name more general.

Ness, get a life.

In my own defense, I only asked for a Caitian Userbar on the BF forums, and anything I may have said that was even remotely involved with asking for a Caitian area was for the BF forums. I never mentioned this place, and I rarely come here. I was surprised that you made this place, but I was also a bit touched, as I never thought I or anyone else asked you to.

I very much appreciate the time you took to make this area, and the fact that you did it on your forums for us without being asked to (at least by me), but I don't know how often we'll use it here.

This is by far and wide a Klingon forum, and before tonight I had been here once. I just put in a topic on how my experiances tell me that a Caitian should be played, but I will rarely come here again. For what its worth, you may want to leave it up, but that one's your call.

If this area stays open, I'll drop in once and a while, but its not going to be a daily stop for me.

4  Caitian Culture / Caitian Debate / Playing the Caitian Race

Sorry it took so long to get here  Smiley

As one of the more visible Caitian players on the forums over at BFHQ, I suppose I should be the first to reply.

Initially, and to this day I draw much on the resources found at http://www.geocities.com/caitian_tourist/

I've talked to this site's creator before, and he has some pretty good ideas that create what I would term a "normal" kind of race. As in one that has a few specialties, but not one that is a "super" type of race. For instance, the Caitian race stands out as a very fast and agile race, and also one with exceptional vision, good balance, and pretty good hearing.

They are also limited in strength however, and have a low to none level of psychic abilities. In fact, to the more telepathic races such as Betazoids, Caitians are among the easiest minds to peer into.

Another inhibition for  them is that if injured to the point of loosing an appendage, adaptation is difficult and much harder then for a human, or an antenne-less Andorian.

That's a base outline of the Physical aspects that I have adapted from the aforementioned website, as well as my experiances around the internet. Besides the site I listed, there is really no other single web resource that lists the Caitian race in detail.

Portraying one takes a good amount of self-control. You have to kind of self-manage the race as you play it. It is a challenge sometimes, but not that hard of one to overcome. If one follows the folloeing base guidelines, then the race can be portrayed so many differant ways. The main thing about Caitians is that people have a pre-concieved judgement of them, as they are distinctly feline. That makes it easier in some aspects, because people already have a good idea of what to expect. We have seen society anthropomorphize animals in cartoons and whatnot, so if you think of what a cat does IRL, and add a somewhat human personality, you get a Caitian.

These are a few guidelines I give to anyone that asks me about the race:

- Caitians are not terran felines. They may act a bit like it, but milk is not a staple of the diet, and neither is fish.

- Don't call a Caitian character "kitty" unless they are OK with it. Ask first. It is insluting to the player (and IC to the character) to do that most of the time.

- If you want to play a Caitian character just so you can play a walking cat, then don't. It cheapens what the rest of us do. Yes, they have fur and a tail, but if you can't play them for more then appearance, don't bother. I promise your CO will see that you suck writing for one and boot you.

- The homeworld is called CAIT. Not any crazy feline themed name. Its CAIT.

- The star is called 15 Lyncas. That is from the book "Star Trek Starcharts". While that may not be canon, I see a ton of dumb names for the star. Calling it "Lynx" is just esoteric and sounds rediculous. It makes the whole race look cheap.

- When playing one, remember that this is Star Trek. The race is peaceful for the most part, but can be agitated. Most will become competitive in games, and will gladly spar, but at their core, they are not violent. It can be bred in someone due to events, but it would take an outside force to impart that.

- Just play them to have fun. The whole point of the race, at least to me, is to have a good time. Yo ushould make a Caitian if and only if you want a multi-leveled character that enjoys work, friends, and is not against a little adventure now and then.

Yes, I hate it when children point out the mistakes that their elders make in a public and humiliating way to.  Once they gain some maturity they learn that it is not necessary, but until they grow up you just have to learn to let it roll off your back.

Did I mention I have two know it all teens living in my house right now?  Annoying buggers, all of them.

You have an attitude problem and its going to get you banned.

I had to type 'Caitian' about 6 times to get the whole area created and I mistyped once.  A simple PM to fix it would have sufficed.  A simple post that didn't insult me for no reason would have sufficed.

You can see how much traffic its getting.  I made this area in about 5 minutes because the cats said they'd use it.  Well, they haven't.  So clearly the 5 minutes I spent was too much.

I mean. come on!  It's C-A-I-T-I-A-N, not C-A-I-T-A-I-N.

I mean, spelling errors in thread names, like Ta'pez's, is acceptable.  But misspelling the board, that's just negligence.
